Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 28, 2026

Overview

Dictami is designed with privacy as a core principle. All audio processing happens entirely on your device — your voice recordings are never sent to any server, stored in any database, or shared with any third party.

Data We Collect

The app collects no personal data. Specifically:

License Activation

Activating a license key contacts our licence server once. That request contains your key and a device identifier for the Mac you are activating, which is what lets us enforce the device limit and revoke a key after a refund. It contains no personal information and no content from your dictation.

The server replies with a signed token that is stored in your macOS Keychain. Every launch after that verifies the token offline, so Dictami keeps working with no network at all.

Licences bought by card are the one exception. Those keys belong to Gumroad, our payment processor, so about once a week the app asks Gumroad whether the licence is still active — which is how a cancelled or refunded subscription stops working. That request sends the licence key and nothing else: no dictation, no text, no personal information. If your Mac is offline the check is skipped and nothing changes.

Automatic Updates

Dictami uses Sparkle for updates. When checking for updates, Sparkle sends a request to dictami.com/appcast.xml that includes your macOS version and Dictami version number. No personally identifiable information is sent.

Email You Give Us on the Website

Downloading Dictami never requires an email address. If you choose to type one into the optional field on dictami.com, this is what happens to it:

The address is held on Cloudflare Workers KV and sent through Resend, our email provider. To be removed entirely rather than just unsubscribed, email [email protected] and we will delete the record.

Cookies and the Website Itself

dictami.com sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. There are no analytics, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no social media buttons. That is why you were never shown a cookie banner — there is nothing to ask your consent for.

The site is served by Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived technical logs to deliver pages and block attacks. Payments are handled on Gumroad's own site, under Gumroad's privacy policy; we never see your card details.
